Glass making process

Glass manufacturing process

At Vidrala we take care of the smallest detail throughout the manufacturing process. We select the best raw materials, committed to sustainability and care for the environment, and we carry out the melting, moulding, annealing, inspection and dispatch, guaranteeing the highest quality in all our manufacturing lines. A process that allows us to work efficiently and competitively, so that our products reach the customer in the best conditions.

Step 1

Raw materials

The main components come from nature.

  • Silica sand
  • Sodium carbonate
  • Limestone
  • Recycled Glass

Step 2

Merging

The mixture is melted in furnaces at a temperature of around 1,500ºC, converting the mixture of raw materials into molten glass.

When it comes out of the kiln, it is cut into molten glass "drops" of a certain weight.

Step 3

Mould

The glass droplets are placed in moulds where they are blown into the desired container shape.

Step 4

Annealing chest

To ensure the solidity of the glass containers, they are placed in an annealing chest where they are cooled in a slow and controlled manner.

Step 5

Quality control

Every single pack is subjected to strict automated quality controls. Defective packaging is melted again in the furnace.

Step 6

Paletising

The packages are palletised and hermetically sealed so that they reach the customer in the best possible condition.

Step 7

Shipping

The packages are palletised and hermetically sealed so that they reach the customer in the best possible condition.
